Tyler Mae

'Yeaaaaaa boiiiiii!!' ... is what immediately comes to my head upon hearing Tyler Mae!

The grey urban gritty streets of the industrious British city, seem to be flowered with colour here and there as Graffiti artists continue to express themselves. Juxtapose this with the notion one should air caution when walking these streets, this is a place to find inspiration... Grime, Drum and Bass, Jungle, Dubstep, Punk, Post Punk, Metal ... 'you get me?'

Tyler Mae fuze all of the above elements in a fantastic head wobblin approach! It's like lickin whipped cream off a raw chicken breast! YUM! They definitely bring some colour to the obscure genres in which their music consists...

They recently played a show with post hardcore boys 'Enter Shikari' and have some interesting projects in the pipeline watch this space!

Socialite is the debut single! Big tings guwaaaanin!

Also band member and amigo mio Dominic Darcy has set up a clothing line - 'Butchered Apparel' /// Facebook Page = Dominic Butchered Darcy

Memory Tapes

What is it you seek? ... If you are reading this then it is most definitely something musical, perhaps something magical?

Dayve Hawk is the creator behind Memory Tapes. If the great Medieval Wizard, 'Merlin' was a composer ... 'into the cauldron of concoction!' Dayve Hawk exclaimed, as he threw down two separate musical projects, Weird Tapes and Memory Cassettes, to produce an album called 'Seek Magic'.

There was a clang, a boom and a bang, electro dance and ambient electronic fusion took place under Philadelphia skies.

A touch of New Order, a splash of The Cure, a dose of Cut Copy and bring it together with The Knife, throw in some psychedelics and abracadabra! The result, inquisitive uniquely fabricated music!

Listen to this album again and again and your appreciation for it will ... snowball!
NB: The instrumental in Bicycle at around 2 mins 43 is bliss!

Lykke Li

From her 2008 debut album ‘Youth Novels’ we heard a Lykke Li' that had a sound that was claustrophobic, calm and vulnerable but yet laying exotic on a cloud.Full of air with a sweet soft sound. Now we welcome a different darker yet raw Lykke Li'... who in this track ‘Get Some’, the lead single from Li’s second album comes out with a battering sound and banging rip-raw drum beat that will floor you unexpectedly.
From the sound of a mouse's heartbeat to aggressive troublesome tones from start to finish. She still has her tense wild cat voice but with the added sound of a shotgun needing an outcome. Glamorous than ever before, this is a damaged lover who has just regained her confidence...

Fang Island

Fang Island has been one of my favorite new bands for the majority of this year. A band that describes their sound as "everyone high-fiveing everyone", their mostly instrumental tunes are devoid of traditional verses and choruses and instead feature three battling lead guitars that weave all over manic drumming. The energy in this music is so deeply rooted it makes me want to shout along with every deconstructed vocal line. The album starts with firecrackers for God sakes! It's the busiest album I've ever heard that doesn't sound the least bit cluttered. Incomparable with most other indie rock coming out these days, I look forward for more from Fang Island.
Here's a poorly mixed video of them playing on KEXP

Jamie XX'

Having gone from the the quiet one in the back to THE QUIET ONE IN THE BACK....The Mercury winners background man has now moved forward on the chessboard getting closer and closer to checkmate with this track...

The 'XX' beat maker and remix master has been given a new instrument to play with in the shape of a steel drum that beats love in to any cold heart.
You could spend $465 dollars on a pair of shorts, but Id rather spend 4:45 seconds listening to this track over and...

Museum Of Bella Artes

Sweden has now established its self as the perfectionists of synth-pop. Another contender for the crown is 'Museum of Bella Artes'....
Like a cat on cocaine this music crackles in to each other beat per beat but still remains tasteful to the ear. In 1964, a Philadelphia trio called the Sapphires hit #25 on the charts with "Who Do You Love". 45 years forward the track is resuscitated with a synth heart and wallowing echoes of sweet laden lyrics that haunt the track with bright colours.
Misty but yet beautiful voices fill the room if this is played loud LOUD.

Chad Valley

Hugo Manuel (Frontman from the Electro outfit 'Ionquil') delivers Chad Valley a psychadelic minamalist lift from Electro that is more calm than wild...
Bathing in shining hot suns and wave after wave of balearic bliss is how Chad Valley talks to us through his music swarming around us with a warm sound that entraps us listening to his effortless mind opening yet tranquil powerful balearic heart...

Eskmo

A native of Connecticut now based in San Francisco he is widely heralded as an artist that offers a new sound wave of electronica. His canvas is big enough to paint a masterpiece that can be heard and currently seen across New York, London & Tokyo.
Eskmo is a member of the Ninja Tunes family who diversifies a flow of sounds that are entwined with heavy bass and an angelic electro beat. With a down to earth rooted vision Eskmo delivers and revives creative electronica allowing it to flourish in to our ears. His debut self entitled album landed on the 4th which travels through RnB, Glitch, Electronica layered with entrancing vocals...

Karkwa - Les chemins de verre

I first heard of this band a few weeks ago after they won the coveted Polaris Prize, the Canadian version of the British Mercury Prize. I know very little about the band other than they're from Montreal and sing every song in French. Their sound strikes me as a combination of Local Natives and Grizzly Bear. Whatever it is it's kept me hooked. Check out this video of them playing the first song off of the album, Le Pyromane. I like how the drummer plays the end on wine bottles.

Warpaint

View All Photos | WARPAINT

The past couple of weeks I personally had no new music to be electrified about but this has now changed thanks to Warpaints new album'Fool' dropping in on the 25th of Oct.
Warpaint's previous LP 'Exquisite Corpse' was just a bite as to what is just around the corner.
Having worked with the likes of John Frusciante (RHCP) & mixes from the talents of Bjork and Primal Scream these girls really do hit notes that will make their songs persevere in your mind with a sound that is both psychedelic and mellow. Comparable to the mellifluous sound of 'Beach House' & channeling sound of the 'Dum Dum Girls' their soft harmonies and calm-to-heart sounds are too recherché to walk past....

Caribou

Having released the 2010 album 'Swim' this has to be one of the best albums I've heard all year. Opening new doors to psychedelic music Caribou take you on a journey of a mixture of beats and sounds surrounded by harmonic voices that will leave a stamp on any music lover due to the sheer quality being fed to your ears..
A Canadian from small-town Ontario now based in England delivers Dance and Electronica that absorb the listener in wanting more. His 2007 album 'Andorra' was obviously just an introduction as we have now been given an entirely different electro-tinged sound to listen too....
